Cello lessons for young children
(ages 5 and up)
Does your child want to learn to play the cello? With me, children as young as 5 can be introduced to this beautiful instrument in a playful and musical way. The lessons are specifically designed for young beginners and combine fun, creativity, and musical development.
Learning through play
The first lessons are all about getting familiar with the cello and the bow. We'll start with singing, strumming, and clapping rhythms before we start using the bow. This way, we gradually build a solid foundation.
What we do in the first lessons:
- Take a good look at the cello and learn to hold it
- Hugging the cello to learn good posture
- Come up with a fun name for each string
- Singing and strumming songs
- Practicing rhythms with fruit cards (such as "apple" and "banana")
- The first notes strike on open strings
Parental involvement
It can be difficult for young children to remember everything we do in class. That's why I like to invite parents to join the lessons in the beginning. This way, you can practice together at home, and the learning process becomes a pleasant shared experience.
Lesson duration and structure
We start with 30-minute lessons, which is often just right for young children. As your child gets older or develops greater concentration, we can extend the lesson time to 45 minutes or an hour.
